What is the best diet tea in the perfect cup? Before we can say what is the best diet tea we need to know what is in that cup of tea! Because of the hype about tea and the many good things that has been said and written about it, the need for tea has been compared to what is usually said about an apple and goes like this - "a cup of tea a day keeps the doctor away".

Studies have shown that tea is rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, polyphenols and catechins. So a cup of tea provides you with all of these scientific sounding names. Antioxidants are nutrients found in a lot of the food we eat which repairs and slows down the damage done to our body by free radicals which is produced every time our body uses oxygen. Commonly known antioxidants are Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E and are found in carrots, tomatoes, peas, spinach, broccoli, apples, asparagus and tea.

Polyphenols are antioxidants which capable to block fat absorption by the body, increase metabolism and promote weight loss. Polyphenols are found in soy, red wine, grapes, berries, chocolate, peanuts and tea.

Flavonoids are polyphenol antioxidants which prevent the movement of cholesterol and triglycerides from the liver to our body tissues thus reducing the risk of atherosclerosis, blocking of the arteries, and preventing heart attack and stroke due to high blood pressure. Flavonoids are also known to have anti-allergic properties which may prevent sinusitis and asthma, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties. They are found in soybean, citrus fruits and tea.

Catechins are antioxidants which contain polyphenols and flavonoids. Catechins are found in strawberries, brussel sprouts, beans, apples, onions and tea.

By the time you get to this part, you have surely read the powerful antioxidants and their properties that a cup of tea contains. To get the best results it is best to drink tea from loose leaf at least three to five times a day.

There are a lot of varieties of tea like green, white, black or oolong and all of them contain the antioxidants that will help us fight and prevent health problems. With all these benefits that we can obtain from tea whichever variety of tea you take will surely be the perfect cup!
